RE: Solar Power

nny12972
Here in the western states my two 7 amp panels have never let me down. 3rd trailer with the same set-up. The wife runs the 21" TV all night while I work on the computer. Never even came close to running out of juice. Ever. 4 batteries and 2 panels pretty much does it for weeks at a time. Is rotation better? Sure! Necessary? Depends! I really don't think so - but it really depends on what you use.

RE: Clear as mud

With your TV I would limit myself to a max of 25'. 23'-24' would be a better option. 22' is perfect but VERY impractical. I would suggest looking for a lightweight 24'-25' for your family. I see you are in California wine country! Good luck with the 24'-25 lightweight. Let me suggest an Equal-i-zer hitch to go with it!!!

RE: How long of a trailer can I tow

I agree: Good advice here . . .
"Highly recommend you consider a Reese Dual Cam or maybe Equal-i-zer set up.
If you have lots of extra $$$ Hensley would also be an excellent choice."
Long trailers with serious cross-winds will be a serious, serious problem for you for any real towing distance. (like 300 miles on a windy day!)

RE: Suburban 2500...TT to big?? opinions

I guess it depends how far you intend to tow it - and up what hills. I would guess it would be a poor move. But that's pretty subjective and based on my own needs.
After adding 2 more batteries (4 total) to the TT my total CAT weight with the lighter 2007 1500 Suburban LTZ totals 13,000# (with a TT that had a cabinet sticker that said 5,040#). I also have a satellite dish and two solar panels. That includes 2 passengers and a 100# dog and 60# ice chest. As you can see from my profile, I have the 6 liter and 4.11 rear end. The rig pulls very nicely but I would be very reluctant to add another 2,000# trailer weight (and your 2500 weighs a lot more than my 1500) I live in the Southwest and vacation often in the mountains. I find the 1500 Burb makes an excellent second car - very comfortable and quiet for trips we take without the trailer. As I am a retired commercial photographer, I carry a lot of camera gear that I want easy access to.
My opinion is that the 6.0 would be stressed out!

RE: Favorite feature on your TT and why

. . . and a few additions:
Two seven amp solar panels
Four batteries
A 21" flat screen TV
A satellite dish
All this in a Nash 25S (26' trailer). Tight, but with everything.
Comfort, evening entertainment when it is cold or raining - and a great bed (modified with 2" of memory foam).
"Could I have another glass of merlot, please?" :^) COMFORT is everything, even is a SMALL TT.

RE: Favorite feature on your TT and why

The BED and the WATER supply (58 gallone in a small trailler is awesome)! Also the fact that things don't BREAK! Lastly, it simply HOLDS TOGETHER. (Opinion based on 4 trailers, 2 campers, and 1 5er so far).

RE: outside speakers

Wireless works great! And simple. Just add batteries to the speakers. You will need a "line out" or headset out to make it work. In the "olden years" I ran a separate 200 watt amp, outside jacks, and TWO JBL 8" speakers in 2' high cabinets. The whole desert got to enjoy "our" music. Party time solution but terrible for anything else! Right up until my batteries went dead - usually about 1:00 am. Thank God I am older!!!!!!!!!!! :^) But, I DO own a radio station so I suppose it payed off. Maybe.

RE: Solar Power

Why would it invalidate the warranty if done correctly! I have two 7 amp panels on my Nash 25S and 4 batteries. I NEVER lack for power, even in prolonged cloudy weather! ONLY way to fly. So easy to install and so worth it.

RE: Dirt Bike Rack

DJ - The double carrier you show looks like a pretty iffy solution - in my opinion. The torque and bounce weight could very well raise some serious problems with a single hitch! I had a 5er with a 600 lb rear hitch which pretty much had serious problems with 140 pounds hanging on the back. In fact, the rack finally went south due to the side to side twisting.
Pat's rack, with only one bike and TWO massive extension arms even has a few problems (but a great solution, nevertheless). Never underestimate what that much weight can do when it starts twisting and bouncing. A 55" extension (as shown) can get pretty hairy! Just one old man's opinion.

RE: trailer leveling

First get the trailer super level. Then mount a 8-10" level where it can be seen from the driver's seat. This will be on the front of the trailer somewhere. This is an enormous help when backing up and trying to get the trailer level side to side. It also helps if you need blocks.
After you unhitch you can level the trailer and mount levels on the side for later use. We can level our trailer extremely quickly using the backup level and the side level (by using the tongue electric jack).
Being able to properly level the trailer while backing and unhitching is really the quickest way to go.

RE: Fresh Water Tank

Go to your local car store. Buy a gas siphon tube with a squeeze bulb as part of it. Stick the tube into the water tank, squeeze the pump a few times, and hold the 5 gallons on your shoulder while gravity does its thing.
Second solution. Get an electric pump that does the same thing as gravity. Usually runs on AC. Got a generator? If not, a small 400 watt inverter should do the trick. Small fish pond or water feature motors will also work. Put a tube on each end and turn it on! Or, buy a DC water pump - same as your trailer has - and run it directly off your DC battery. More efficient than a AC unit. Rig an electrical quick disconnect and you are ready to go.
Third solution. If you have a ladder on your rig put the 5 gallons on the roof and let it drain in (using a siphon tube of clear 1/2" or 3/4" plastic). In fact, put two or three 5 gallons up there near the edge and do them all at the same time.
Fortunately my Nash 25S holds 58 gallons of water.

RE: Black water guage lies! Or not?

Thanks folks. I suspected TP hanging on a sensor. Never tried the ice cube OR fabric softener trick. I did try adding more water with more blue stuff, and driving around - unsuccessfully.

Black water guage lies! Or not?

I have had 2 campers, 4 trailers, and 1 5th wheel over 35 years so I have been around. However, I am puzzled!
I drained my black water (which read full) and saw 2/3 full after draining. I added water and drained again. Still reads full. So I then use the interior spray and add 10 gallons (approx) - and drain. And see FULL. Funny thing is, I can see and hear a LOT of black water going down into the dump station.
OK. So I fill it up with 3 gallons of water (through the toilet) and drive home (5 miles including a rough road). I get home and it reads 2/3 full! Yikes! Today, 3 days later, it still reads 2/3 full.
Any ideas as to what is going on? I would guess blockage somewhere, but I have pretty much followed correct procedure.
